Expert Answer
(1)Potassium hydroxide solution has been kept in test tube X and Y to absorb CO2 produced during respiration.
(2) Boiled peas soaked in disinfectant are kept in test tube Y because if these are not soaked in disinfectant, bacterial growth may be there in the tube Y and we will not get results due to bacterial respiration.
(3) The germinating peas respire and oxygen is used, which creates vacuum in the tube. So, coloured water rises in tubing 1.
(4) Respiration
(5) Respiration is the step-wise oxidation of glucose in living cells to release energy.
