Three cells of 6V each are connectedin circuit. 
 
Total potential difference of the circuit is 18 V.
 
Three resistances are connected in series. 
Thus, the effective resistance of the circuit is,
Rs = R1 + R2 + R3 = 5 + 8 + 12 = 25 Ω 
 
The total current in the circuit is given as,
V = IR 
18 = I x (25)
I = 0.72 A 
 
As the resistors are connected in series, the potential difference across each resistor is different while the current through each resistor is same.
 
Thus, the potential difference across 12 Ω resistor is given by 
 
V =I R 
V = 0.72 x (12) = 8.64 V 
 
Thus, the total current in the circuit is 0.72 A and the potential difference across 12 Ω resistor is 8.64 V
