ICSE Class 6 Answered
The poem Vocation written by Rabindranath Tagore is a journey through a child’s mind as he sees grown-up people around him carrying on with their adult life, working as people skilled in different occupations. However, the boy is naïve and doesn’t understand that the hawker has to walk all day whether rain or shine, shout at the top of his voice so that women will come out of their homes and buy the bangles. The lines ‘There is nothing to hurry him on, there is no road he must take, no place he must go to, no time when he must come home.’ He is not aware of all the toiling the gardener has to do while digging the earth. He thinks both of them live a life of free will without anyone nagging them.
