Figure shows the forces acting on block of mass m . Tension forces acting along the cables are resolved so that
one component of each tension force is parallel to weight mg and other component is perpendicular to weight mg
 
At equilibrium, we have ,  T1 cosα = T2 cosβ  ....................(1)
 
T1 sinα + T2 sinβ = m g ..................... (2)
 
From eqn.(1) , we have,    begin mathsize 14px style T subscript 1 over T subscript 2 equals fraction numerator cos beta over denominator cos alpha end fraction space space.............................. left parenthesis 3 right parenthesis end style
Hence we have , begin mathsize 14px style T subscript 1 equals T subscript 2 space space fraction numerator cos beta over denominator cos alpha end fraction space space.............................. left parenthesis 4 right parenthesis end style
If we substitute T1 from eqn.(4) , we can rewrite eqn.(2) as

 
begin mathsize 14px style T subscript 2 open parentheses sin alpha space cos beta space plus space cos alpha space sin beta close parentheses space equals space m g space cos alpha space space end style

If we substitute T2 from eqn.(5) , we can rewrite eqn.(4) as
