the answer to the above question is that the ROLLING FRICTION will act in the upward direction in either case, whether the ball is ROLLING UPWARDS OR DOWNWARDS. with due respect, i would like you to reconsider your answer and explain the reason for that. regards

Now, when the ball is rolling downwards, gravity acts on it to drag it down further. Hence, the rolling friction acts opposite to the direction of motion, i.e. in the upward direction.
 
When the ball is rolling upwards, it moves in the direction opposite to gravity. So, the ball is actually pulled down. Hence, the rolling friction has to act in the upward direction.
