Loss of weight of solid when it is immersed in liquid at 27°C = 16 gm.
Volume of displaced liquid at 27ºC = volume of solid at 27ºC, Vs= (16/ρl) cc --------------(1)
ρl is liquid density at 27ºC.
Loss of weight of solid when it is immersed in liquid at 42ºC = 15.5 gm
Volume of displaced liquid at 42ºC = volume of solid at 42ºC, Vs[1+3α(15) ]= (15.5/ρl') cc------------(2)
α is linear expansion coefficient of metal. ρl' is liquid density at 42ºC
from (1) and (2) we write
β is voulume expansion coefficient of liquid. by substituting α = 2.316 ×10-5 / ºC , ΔT = 15 ºC, we can solve for β
