Take a metre scale and a large rope.walk from one corner of a basketball court to its opposite corner along its sides.measure the distance covered by you and magnitude of the displacement.what difference would you notice between the two in this case.

  • This is a very inquisitive example of finding distance and displacement.
  • The technique to be used is fairly simple.
  • However, we will not be able to go outside our office constraints and do the exercise ourselves. It would be lovely if you could do the same and provide us the answer.
  • Steps involved are:
  1. To measure the distance covered from one corner to the other through its sides
  2. To measure the distance covered from one corner to the other directly on the court
  • The first will give you the distance covered and the second will give you the displacement.
