- The Gulf Stream: It influences the climate of the east coast of North America from Florida to Newfoundland. Without the Gulf Stream, the climate of the region would have been colder than what it is today. The Gulf Stream has also been developed for the generation of electricity
- The Labrador Current: It is a cold current. In early summers, the current brings down the icebergs from the glaciers of Greenland into the Trans-Atlantic shipping lanes. It meets the warm Gulf Stream at Newfoundland which creates fog giving rise to the deposition of planktons. This makes it one of the richest fishing grounds in the world.
- The Kuro Current: The warm waters of the Kuro current keeps the coast of Alaska ice free even during the winters.
