State how nitrogen is utilised by plants for their growth. Give reason why nitrogen is used in flushing food packages

Answer:

Plants use nitrogen by absorbing either nitrate or ammonium ions through the roots.

All food package bags are filled with nitrogen to protect the food inside the bag from oxygen exposure and physical damage. When nitrogen is flushed, it displaces oxygen and cushions the content. Nitrogen does not react with foods like oxygen and hence, the food stays fresh for longer.
