The three categories that archaeologists have divided the prehistoric stone tools are

  Core tools: These were palm-sized stones which were used for pounding, smashing and throwing.

  

  Flake tools: These tools were used specially for scraping and slitting. 

  

  Blade tools: These were the early form of knives which are used nowadays. They then evolved into arrowheads, spears and knives.
