Lowest frequency corresponds to highest wavelenngth.

Image the string plucked in the middle, and what you observe is just 1/2 the complete wave.

λ/2 = L

λ = 2L = 2 m

speed = wavelength x frequency

= 2 x 440 = 880 m/s
