We have following formulas
 
(1) Mean deviation δ = (μ - 1)A   ...............................(1)
 
(2) Angular dispersion δV - δr = ( μv - μr )A .............................(2)
 
(3) Dispersive power = begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator A n g u l a r space d i s p e r s i o n over denominator M e a n space D e v i a t i o n end fraction space equals space fraction numerator delta subscript v space minus space delta subscript r over denominator delta end fraction space equals space fraction numerator mu subscript v space minus space mu subscript r over denominator mu minus 1 end fraction end style  ........................(3)
Difference of refractive index ( μv - μr ) is obtained from eqn.(3) using known dispersive power
and the known refractive index of mean ray.
 
( μv - μr ) = dispersive power × (μ - 1) = 0.03×(1.62-1) = 0.0186  ...............................(4)
 
From eqn.(2), we get angular dispersion as, δV - δr = 0.0186 × 5 = 0.093
 
FRom eqn.(1), we get Mean deviation δ = (1.62 -1)×5 = 3.1°
