Sir what are direction ratios and direction cosines?

For any vector r = ai+bj+ck, the direction ratios are simply a:b:c while the direction cosines are 
 
In other words, direction ratios represent the ratio of the distance that you need to move in x, y and z direction in order to reach a specific point whereas direction cosines are the cos of the angles that the vector makes with x, y and z direction.
