Fringe width = Dλ/d ........................ (1)
where D is distance between slits and screen, λ is the wavelength of the light used and d is the inter-slit distance.
Shifting of fringe pattern due to mica sheet = t(μ-1)D/d ............(2)
where t is the thickness of mica sheet and μ is the refractive index of mica
since shifting is one fringe spacing , let us equate (1) and (2) to get refractive index
