The three states of matter are different due to inter-moleculer forces between the molecules.
In solid, there is a strong inter moleculer force. In liquid there is weak inter moleculer force.
In gaseous state, there is negligible inter moleculer force between molecules
Due to this intermoleculer forces, three states of matter are different. Solids have definite shape and incompresible.
Liquid does not have definite shape, it takes the shape of container and slightly incompressible.
Gaseous state has no fixed volume, it takes the volume of container and compressible.

molecules:- smallest, physically undividable part of compound. they are made up of similar or various kind of atoms.
water molecule:- H2O made up of Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms
Nitrogen  molecule:- N2 made up of Nitrogen molecule

Kinetic energy of molecules:- molecules in liquid are not at rest , there is a random motion of molecules and speed of these random motion depends on temperature. due to the random motion, molecules have kinetic energy.

Latent heat:- energy absorbed by the substance during phase change at constant temperature. When ice at solid state at 0°C melts to liquid state at 0°C, by absorbing heat of 336 kJ/kg.

During the process of boiling, heat energy is absorbed by liquid. Hence kinetic energy of molecues keep on increasing and phase change is taking place. Liquid state is changed to gaseous state and molecules of gaseous state will escape from the liquid volume.
