Respected sir/mam,
Please explain me this question:
Two numbers are in the ratio 3:5. If 9 is subtracted from each, the new numbers are in the ratio 12:23, find the number.

Let us assume 'x' as the ratio So the ratio becomes 3x/5x.
As per the given condition.
fraction numerator 3 x minus 9 over denominator 5 x minus 9 end fraction equals 12 over 23
On Cross multiplication and simplification, we get
23*3x - 23*9 = 12*5x - 12*9
 
23*3x - 12*5x = 23*9 - 12*9
3x(23-20) = 9(23 - 12)
3x*3 = 9 * 11
x= 11.
 
So the numbers will be 3x and 5x as 33 and 55.
