ratanlal and jayantilal conducted election in which there were only two candidates.Ratanlal won the election by 88 votes. If jayantilal had got 1\7votes which ratanlal got he would have won by 18 votes. Find the number of votes obtained by both when ratanlal won.

I am not sure if the question that you have written is correct. Please recheck it again. Logically speaking, if Ratanlal is winning elections that means, that Ratanlal has larger number of votes than Jayantilal. However, in your second statment you are saying that if Jayantilal has got 1/7th votes which Ratanlal had got, then still the number of votes won by Jayantilal would have been smaller than Ratanlal's votes (1/7 is less than 1) and hence, he could not have won the election still.

So, please recheck the question once again.
