ac generator is a machine which generates electricity by using the principle of electromagnetic induction.

A dc motor is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanicl energy. It works on the principle that when a current carrying conductor , capable of rotating freely, is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a force and begins to move in a direction given by Fleming's left hand rule.
