Pebble is thrown vertically with initial speed u = 4.9 m/s. It will reach a height h, which is given by
Time taken t to reach the height h is given by : t = u/g = 4.9/9.8 = 0.5 s
 
Let H be the height of bridge above water. After reaching the height h, pebble is falling to a distance (h+H) in 1.5 s. The distance (h+H) will be obtained as follows
 
(h+H) = (1/2)×9.8×1.5×1.5 = 11.025 m
 
hence height of the bridge H = 11.025-1.225 = 9.8 m
 
Final velocity of the pebble when it reaches water surface = 9.8×1.5 = 14.7 m/s
