Question - 2 :

A ball falls freely on a perfectly elastic plate from a height of 3.0 m. At the instant  t = 0 , the velocity of the ball is zero. Draw time - velocity graph for the motion of the ball. Label the axes and show the mathematical  calculations required. ( g = 9.8 m/s^2 ).

Answer:
When the ball is dropped from a height of 3 m, the time to reach the ground is 7.6 s and the velocity it will get is 74.5 m/s. Calculations are given below

time to reach ground = square root of( 2×g×h) = square root of(2×9.8×3) = 7.6 s

velocity when the ball hitting the ground = g×t = 9.8×7.6 = 74.5 m/s

since the floor is elastic, the ball rebounds with the same velocity 74.5 m./s
