Public sector performed a vital role in the economic development of the country. But still they faced several problems such as poor project planning, excessive overheads, under utilisation of capacity and inefficiency. Hence the government initiated certain steps to restructure and revive potentially viable PSUs, close down the PSUs which cannot be revived and to protect the interest of the workers.
