Q1:Where should an object be placed in front of a convex lens of focal length 0.12 m to obtain a real image of size three times the size of the of the object,on the screen? Q2:A convex lens forms an inverted image of size same as that of the object which is placed at a distance 60 cm in front of the lens.Find:a.The position of the image and b.The focal length of the lens. Q3:A concave lens forms an erect image of 1/3rd size of the object which is placed at a distance 30 cm in front of the lens.Find:a.The position of the image and b.The focal length of the lens.

Required magnification is 3. Also it is required to get real magnified image using convex lens.
Hence image is inverted and magnification formula is given by, 
 
m = -v/u = 3  or v = -3×u ...............(1)
 
where m is magnification, v is image-to-lens distance and u is object-to-lens distance.
 
we have lens equation, (1/v) - (1/u) = 1/f ...............(2)
 
where f is focal length of lens.
 
Combining (1) and (2) and substitute f=12 cm, we write,   (1/3u) +(1/u) =  -1/12 ...........(3)
 
solving eqn.(3) for u, we get u = -16 cm
 
Hence if object is placed on the left side of convex lens at a distance 16 cm from lens,
we get 3 times magnified and inverted real image on the right side of convex lens
