(a) The method of growing or producing thousands of plants through tissue culture is called micropropagation.
(b) The components of media used in vitro are agar- agar, growth hormones like auxins and gibberelins, inorganic salts etc.
(c) The plants produced from tissue culture are genetically identical to the original plant from which they are grown, so they are called somaclones.
(d) The major advantage of producing plants by micropropagation is that it helps in the propagation of a large number of plants in a short span of time.
(e) The root tips and shoot tips of infected plants are not infected by viruses. These apical neristems are taken as explants and are cultured in the nutrient media to produce virus- free plants. Banana and sugarcane are produced using this method.
