If we need to conserve fauna, the survival of man is at stake due to the following reasons:

  1. Animals help in maintain ecological balance. Some animals occupy an important position in the food chain which helps in maintaining ecological balance.
  2. Fauna also helps in cleaning the environment. For example, vultures play an important role of scavengers and maintain the cleanliness of the environment.
  3. The fauna contributes to the maintenance of material cycles like the carbon and the nitrogen cycle.
