The following steps need to be followed to solve such dimensions related queries:

1) Take the dimension of the quantity on the left. [t] = [T]

2) Establish the relation between LHS and RHS. begin mathsize 12px style straight t proportional to straight h to the power of straight x straight rho to the power of straight y straight g to the power of straight z rightwards double arrow straight t equals straight k straight h to the power of straight x straight rho to the power of straight y straight g to the power of straight z end style

3) Find the dimension of all the quantities on the right. h, ρ and g = [h] = [L]; [ρ] = [ML-3]; [g] = [LT-2].

4) Use the relation in step 2 and the dimensions in step 3 to find the values of x, y and z. [T] = [L]x [ML-3]y [LT-2]z

5) Match the dimensions of LHS and RHS. You will get x = 1/2; y = 0; z = -1/2. Your final relation will be t = k√h/g
