Expert Answer
Currently, the PDS proves to be the largest distribution network in the world. It is more effective in helping the poor people. However there are many instances of poor mismanagement and corruption. In July 2002, FCI had 63 million tonnes of rice and wheat which was actually higher than the required level of buffer stock. But the excess stock were used for relief operation in 2002-03 due to drought. The practice of providing MSP for wheat and rice also created various problems in o ur economy.
