Germany's overseas colonies had been taken away according to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. This had resulted in a major feeling of victimisation among the Germans. In 1933, Hitler took power in Germany. He followed the ideology of Nazism which believed in racial homogenisation in order to protect the 'purity' of the Aryan race. This had resulted in the Nazi state eyeing for an empire within Europe consisting of all the German speaking territories. This resulted in Germany occupying Austrtia, parts of Chzechoslovakia and in the end Poland. These policies of Hitler clashed with the imerialistic tendencies of the British and the French. This clash ultimately resulted in the onset of the Second World War.
