Q) Find the image point (3,8) in the line x+3y-7=0.

A line perpendicular to the given line x+3y-7 = 0 is of the form 3x-y=k
since the assumed line 3x-y=k passes through P(3,8), we have k = 3(3)-8 = 1
Coordinate of Q is obtained by solving the equations given below
x+3y = 7 .......................(1)
3x-y = 1 ..........................(2)
By solving the above equations we get x = 1, y=2 . Hence coordinate of Q = (1,2)
if P'(x,y) is image of P on the line x+3y-7=0, then Q is mid point of P and P'
Hence 1 = (3+x)/2 or x = -1 . similarly 2 = (8+y)/2 or y = -4
Hence image point is P' (-1, -4)
