Given figure (left side figure above) is redrawn to show how the two capacitors and a metal plate is connected to the battery.
Capacitance of the parallel plate capacitor depends on geometry(Area of plates and inter-distance). once the capacitance and emf of battery is constant, then the charge on the plates are constant. Hence charge = C×V = (ε0AV)/d
