Expert Answer
(i) The fringe width in a Young's double slit experiment is inversely proportional to the slit width d.
So, if the distance between the slits S1 and S2 decreases, i.e. d decreases then the fringe width will increase.
(ii) When the entire setup is moved from air to water, the wavelength of the light reduces as refractive index increases.
Now, the fringe width is directly proportional to wavelength. So, the fringe width decreases.
