Let x be number of students.

If the cost of function Rs.1000 shared by all share of the cost per student = Rs. (1000 / x)

since 10 students failed to share, share of the cos per student of remaining = Rs.  [1000 / (x-10)]

hence we have

begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator 1000 over denominator x minus 10 end fraction space minus space 1000 over x space equals space 5 space space space o r space space 1000 space cross times fraction numerator x minus x plus 10 over denominator x left parenthesis x minus 10 right parenthesis end fraction space equals space 5 space space space space space o r space space x squared minus 10 x space minus 2000 space equals space 0

B y space f a c t o r i sin g space t h e space a b o v e space q u a d r a t i c space e q u a t i o n comma space space left parenthesis space x minus 50 space right parenthesis left parenthesis space x space plus 40 space right parenthesis space equals space 0 space space space end style

hence number of students = 50
