The shell moves vertically with velocity v1 due to its projection
In addition to that since the shell is projected from the deck of the ship moving with velocity v2,
the shell has horizontal component of velocity v2.
 
Range is given by R = v2×2t, where t is the time taken by the shell to reach the maximum height.
