(1) By placing another wire of same length means we are merely appending the given wire by another of same length, hence volume will double, and cross sectional area will remain the same.

(2) By melting, the volume will remain the same and cross sectional area will become 1/2.

Vf = AfLf = Af(2Li) = Vi = AiLi,
