The narrator in 'How I Taught My Grandmother to Read' is a young girl. She is someone who cared a lot for her grandmother. The narrator understood her grandmother's love for the stories published in the Kannada magazine. She therefore made it a point to read it out to her. She had become so indispensible  to her grandmother that in her absence her grandmother realised the value of education and made a request to her grandaughter to teach her. Initially, the narrator could not gauge the need behind her grandmother's plea as she was innocent, but she was a responsible child. The narrator tookup the onus of educating her grandmother exhibiting maturity rare of children of her age.She sincerely helpedin realising her grandmother's dreams.
