x2 + 4y2 + 16z2 = 48..........(I)
xy + 4yz + 2xz = 24...........(II)
Multiplying (II) by 2
2xy + 8yz + 4xz = 48.........(III)
Subtracting (III) from (I)
we get
x2 + 4y2 + 16z2 - 2xy - 8yz - 2zx = 0
Using a2 + b2 + c2 - ab - bc - ca = (a - b)2 + (b - c)2 + (c - a)2
(x - 2y)2 + (2y - 4z)2 + (4z - x)2 = 0
x = 2y = 4z
Put x, y, z in (I)
Solving we get k = 1
x2 + y2 + z2 = 16 +4 4 + 1 = 21
