Speed of the sound depends upon elasticity of medium and density of medium.
Thus,

V equals square root of E over rho end root

F o r space i s o t h e r m a l space c h a g e space comma space E equals P r e s s u r e space o f space m e d i u m space left parenthesis P right parenthesis
V space equals square root of P over rho end root
At normal temperature and pressure, speed of sound was found to be 279.5 m/s using the above relation.

But experimentally it is 330 m/s.

So, Laplace made the correction in the above equation.
According to Laplace, the propagation of sound is adiabatic change and
E =γP
where, γ is ration of specific heat at constant pressure to the specific heat at constant volume.
γ = Cp/Cv
Hence the equation becomes,
V equals square root of fraction numerator gamma P over denominator rho end fraction end root
γ depends on the nature of medium.
γ is 1.4 for air.

Speed of sound also depends upon the temperature of medium.
The speed of sound increases with the increase in the temperature.

 V space alpha space square root of T
The speed of sound increases by 0.61 m/s for each degree celsius rise in the temperature.
Thus,
Equation for the speed of sound at temperature is,
V subscript theta equals space V subscript 0 space plus space 0.61 theta
w h e r e comma
V subscript theta space minus space v e l o c i t y space o f space s o u n d space a t space t e m p e r a t u r e space theta
space V subscript 0 space minus space v e l o c i t y space o f space s o u n d space a t space 0 to the power of omicron space C
theta space minus space t e m p e r a t u r e space o f space m e d i u m
