Let the GP be k, kr, kr2 , kr3 .........   ,  where k is first term and r is the common ratio.
 
(p+q)th term = k × r(p+q-1)  = a ............(1)
(p-q)th term  = k × r(p-q-1)   = b ..............(2)
 
if we multiply both the eqn.(1) and (2), we get,  k2 × r2(p-1) = a×b  or begin mathsize 12px style k cross times r to the power of p minus 1 end exponent space equals square root of a b end root end style ...............(3)
LHS of eqn.(3) is pth term of GP. Hence it is proved that pth term of GP = begin mathsize 12px style square root of a b end root end style
