P4+OHminus gives PH3H2PO2 redox reaction

Expert Answer
P4(s) + OH-(aq) → PH3(g)+ HPO-2(aq)
In the above reaction,
The oxidation state of P earlier is 0, on oxidation, it changes to +1 in HPO-2 and on reduction changed to -3 in PH3.
Hence oxidation and reduction both occur simultaneously, hence above reaction is considered as a redox reaction.
