Answer:
Mg has oxidation state = +2 and O has oxidation state = -2 and suppose P has oxidation state x.

So, ( 2x2 ) + 2x + ( 7 x -2) = 0
4 + 2x - 14 = 0
2x = 10
x = +5 (oxidation stateof P)
