National Population Policy was introduced in the year 2000 for promoting the welfare of children and family as a whole. Its main works include:

 i. It formulates policies for imparting free and compulsory education to children up to 14 years of age.

ii. It makes policies to reduce infant mortality rates.

iii. It undertakes programmes to achieve universal immunisation of children in India.

iv. It promotes delayed marriage for girls.
