Outcrossing is otherwse called outbreeding. It is the practice of mating animals within the same breed but having no common ancestors up to 4-6 generations. One of the best advantages of outcrossing is that it hides negative traits by keeping them recessive.Outcrossing improves fitness traits such as reproductive ability, milk production, kid survivability etc.
Cross-breeding is the mating of animals with superior males of one breed and superior females.Heterosis (hybrid vigor) and breed complementarity are the primary benefits realized from crossbreeding program. Heterosis is the increase in performance or function above what is expected based on the parents of the offspring. For example, crossbred cows can have more efficiency, lifetime productivity, etc than straight-bred cow.
