There are three states of matter - Solid, liquid, gases.
  • Solids have definite size, shape, hardness, texture and color. Solids have a higher density i.e the ratio of their masses to their volumes is greater when compared with the other states of matterThe number of molecules in a liquid is comparatively less than solids.
  • In liquids, the distance between any two molecules is more than that of solids. But the force between liquid particles is good enough to hold them together.
  • Gases do not have a fixed shape. The force of attraction between molecules of gases is very negligible as compared to solids and liquids.
  • Unlike solids and liquids, gases while moving exert pressure in all directions.
  • For eg: - When the solid ice cube gets treated with the heat, it gets converted into liquid this process is called melting . On further heating, the liquid gets converted into a gas and this process is called vaporisation. Now this gas on cooling converts into liquid form which on further cooling gets converted into a solid. These processes are called as liquefaction and solidification respectively.
