not understanding resistance in schools

Resistance in Vietnamese schools against the Introduction of French Education:
The French introduced western education in the Vietanmese schools which made fun of Vietanamese culture and traditions. School textbooks prescribed by the French glorified the colonial rule. The people of Vietnam were described as uncivilsed and naive who cannot develop on their own. School children were told that only the French could ensure peace in Vietnam.
Of course these books were not liked by the Vietnamese teachers and students as they described the French as superior and Vietnamese as inferior beings. So they resisted. The teachers in schools did not blindly follow the curriculum. Sometimes, they changed the text and criticised what was stated in books. Many student also opposed what was written in the books.
There were also opposition to the French rules in the calssrooms. In Saigaon Native Girls Schools, a Vietanamese girl was asked to move from the front seat to make way for a French student. When she refused, the principal who was a French expelled her. This led to protests and finally the government gave in.
So it was in the above ways that the Vietanamese teachers and students resisted or opposed the French education in schools.
