No work is done by a man rowing a boat upstream but it is at rest with respect to the bank. Give reasons.

Work done = Force x Displacement
When the man is rowing a boat upstream, it is at rest with respect to the bank. So, the displacement of the boat is zero. Hence, no work is done by the boat.
