(a) Menstrual Phase: This phase lasts for 3 to 5 days. During this phase, the blood is discharged due to the shedding of uterine lining. Starting of the onset of the menstruation flow, the ovary begins to form a new egg in a follicle.

(b) Ovulatory Phase: On the 13th or 14th day of menstrual cycle the follicle ruptures i.e. ovulation takes place and the released ovum travels down the oviduct.
