To measure the volume of a liquid, devices used are measuring cylinder, measuring flask, pipette, burette, etc.
Measuring cylinder is commonly used for measuring or pouring out a desired volume of liquid.
Measuring flask on filling up to the mark etched on the neck contains a fixed volume of liquid as written over it.
Pipette is used, to transfer fixed volume of liquid. It is filled up to the mark by sucking up the liquid and then closing the upper end with the finger to control the outflow of the liquid.
Burette is a narrow glass tube provided with a tap and graduated in ml and each milli-litre is divided into ten equal parts. The marking is from the top downwards so as to measure the volume of the liquid delivered directly.
