n2/v - n1/u = n2-n1/R is already according to the sign convention then why do we take u negative in questions

The negative sign present in the equation is formula. While the sign conventions depend upon the position of image, position of object, nature of lens etc. Thus, the signs are given as per the requirement of the case given in the numerical. As the object is placed to the left side of lens or mirror, it is considered to be negative as per New Cartesain sign Conventions.
