Let the two numbers be x and y.
According to the conditions, we have
xy equals 162 space... space left parenthesis straight i right parenthesis and comma space straight x over straight y equals 2 space... space left parenthesis ii right parenthesis From space left parenthesis straight i right parenthesis comma space we space have space straight x equals 162 over straight y Putting space in space left parenthesis ii right parenthesis comma space we space get fraction numerator begin display style 162 over straight y end style over denominator straight y end fraction equals 2 162 over straight y squared equals 2 straight y squared equals 81 straight y equals plus-or-minus 9 When space straight y equals 9 rightwards double arrow straight x equals 18 When space straight y equals negative 9 rightwards double arrow straight x equals negative 18 Hence comma space the space two space numbers space would space be space 9 space and space 18 space or space minus 9 space and space minus 18.
