Finding momentum is important in Physics because, it is a quantity that is conserved in every closed system, that is, unless energy is put in or taken out from a system, then the the sum of the momenta before an event/collision will be the same as the sum of the momenta of all the bodies after the event/collision.
Thus, its value does not change. This allows one to consistently predict an outcome over due course of time.
