The three rules pertaining to cricket which were framed in first written ‘Laws of Cricket’ that were drawn up in 1744 stated:

 The stumps must be 22 inches high and the bail across them six inches.

 The weight of the ball must be between 5 and 6 ounces.

 The two sets of stumps should be kept 22 yards apart.
